Swiss U19s struggle against Germany, but dominate Austria and England after opening day

The Swiss team woke up at the crack of dawn to face Germany at 9:30. The match ended 4-1 in favour of the Germans (goal Perrot Leon, assist Christinaz Theo).

There was no time for our national team to take a break, as they went on to beat Austria and change the momentum. The Helvetians gave the tournament hosts a hard time and finished with a fine 9-1 victory (match report).

After a good meal, Didier Helfer's protégés picked up another 3 points in the afternoon, winning 9-2 (match report).

To round off the Saturday, the national team came up against Germany again, finishing with a draw (match report).

A word from FSIH President Daniel Bietry:

The Austrian Federation is hosting these U19 2023 European Championships in Amstetten. It is providing magnificent facilities and efficient organisation. Our U19 national team got off to a difficult start, losing to Germany. They then went on to beat Austria and England comfortably. The final match of the day again pitted Switzerland against Germany. Our team equalised at the very end of the match. The team is progressing and everything remains open for the rest of the competition.
