EC U19: Swiss return home with silver medal

The Swiss had a very good tournament and were soon considered to be formidable. The only team to stand in the way of the Helvetians was Germany, against whom they drew and lost. On Sunday, Switzerland played Austria (game sheet) and England (game sheet) to close out the qualifiers.

So it came as no surprise that our players in the red and white jerseys found themselves in the final against the no less formidable Germans.

The Germans took the lead in the first half and had the better of the possession.

In the second period, the Swiss got on the scoresheet, making the match exciting and balanced.

Daniel Helfer's players shone in the last 20 minutes of the game, managing to equalise, and from that moment on it was impossible to take your eyes off the match, either as a spectator in the stands or behind the screen. The suspense was at its height, even though the Swiss were putting their opponents under enormous pressure, and in the end it was their opponents who took the lead. You can read the disappointment, but the young Swiss hadn't come here to make up the numbers, and with just a few seconds to go, EQUALISATION!

This team, who didn't see the odds in their favour, have just given themselves extra time! Extra time was not enough to separate the two teams. It was therefore a cruel penalty shoot-out that decided the match in favour of the Germans. During the penalty shoot-out, the Swiss keeper was incredible, but unfortunately it wasn't enough.
